Let’s face it: no one wants to be reading text messages in the middle of the night, no matter how interesting the content might be. One way in which SMS marketing differs from email marketing is that it has stricter legal compliance rules to take note of. Texts arrive directly in people’s phones, as pop-ups, and can therefore be viewed as more invasive.
Your SMS campaign must adhere to what are known as ‘quiet hours’. The purpose of this is twofold: firstly, your customers don’t get inbox fatigue. Secondly, your message arrives at a time when it can make a difference.
Here’s what you need to know:
Quiet hours in UK AND IRELAND, NETHERLANDS, GERMANY, USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND: #
Before 8am, after 8pm.
Quiet hours in FRANCE: #
Before 8am, after 10pm. All Sundays and public holidays.
How to make sure you are compliant #
Don’t worry! It’s easy enough to follow the rules, and a lot of systems will help you to automate quite hours.
⭐On Klaviyo, quiet hours are available for flows , and you will get a warning notification if you try to send any messages during recipients’ quiet hours. To personalise your quiet hours, simply navigate through:
Settings/SMS/Sending Preferences and you can choose whether to base quiet hours on recipients’ time zones, or phone number codes (US and Canada).
⭐Voodoo also has the option to enable quiet times. All you need to do is navigate through:
Settings/Quiet Times/API Quiet Times
If you incorporate quiet hours into your flow-creation or segmentation, you can’t go wrong.
