Sending emails at the right time is essential. It maximises the chances of your email subscribers seeing and engaging with them, increasing your open and click-through rates. It also reduces unsubscribe rates, which is a big plus.
⚡️So… when is the best time? #
Emailing your subscribers when they’re awake is a good place to start. If you send your email at midnight, not only will it get buried in the recipient’s inbox, but you might also be seen as annoying — which isn’t good for business.
Generally, email campaigns should be sent on weekdays. The peak email times are between 9am and 11am, as most people start their workday by checking their emails, and again between 1pm and 3pm, as your subscribers may check their email during lunch and just before clocking out of work.
Emailing after 5pm is (usually) a no-no. Most, if not all, of your subscribers will be checked out of work and out of their emails. They’ll be winding down, which should be respected.
⚡️Study your audience #
The best practice for your business is to study when the best time to send emails is for your audience.
Ask yourself:
- What time zones are my subscribers in?
- What do they do for a living?
- What time of day did my subscribers sign up?
For example, if most of your subscribers are managers, the best time to send emails would be early-to-mid morning, before or after their first meeting. If most of your subscribers are stay-at-home parents, the most suitable time would likely be early-to-late afternoon.
Answering these questions will help you narrow down a specific time frame that works for your subscribers.
⚡️Test and refine #
As with everything, practice makes perfect. If you’re uncertain about when to send your emails — experiment. Pay attention to your open rates and click-through rates, and try various times of the day to learn when your emails will receive the highest engagement.
