A/B testing is about comparing two SMS strategies, to see what clicks (literally!) with your subscribers. It’s a way of checking in on your campaigns, and seeing how they’re doing. You simply send out two slightly different messages to different segments of your list, and then track the results.
You should think about:
- Which message drives more clicks or sales?
- Which message seems to result in opting-out?
⚡️Why should I run A/B tests? #
Good question! The first thing to know is that customers unsubscribe for three main reasons:
- Lacking value
- Lacking relevance
- Too many messages
In a survey with Recharge, Klaviyo found that 45% of people subscribe to receive SMS from 2-3 brands at a time. The inbox is a competitive place. This means you want to stand out, and for that to happen, your SMS campaign needs to be the absolute best. And, with 57% of users unsubscribing due to message overload, it’s important not to over do it. Except you’re not a mind-reader. You cannot know what one customer might deem, ‘too many messages!’, or what another might think is ‘lacking in value’. A/B testing helps you to figure out an answer to these queries.
Pro-Tip: Test one thing at a time. This way, you can be clear on exactly what it is about your SMS that people are responding to.
